John Sterling Calls Last Game
Renowned Voice of New York Baseball Steps Down
Legendary New York Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling has announced his retirement from the broadcast booth, effective immediately. The announcement was made by the club on Monday.
Sterling, 85, will be honored in a ceremony at Yankee Stadium later this season. The longtime Yankees radio voice has called his last game, following a storied career that spanned four decades.
Sterling, a native New Yorker from Manhattan's Upper East Side, joined the Yankees in 1989 after a stint with Atlanta's TBS and WSB. Known for his energetic style and signature home run call, "A-Rod goes deep," Sterling has been a beloved figure among Yankees fans for generations.
The Athletics Andrew Marchand broke the news of Sterling's retirement on Monday, marking the end of an era for New York Yankees baseball.
