A tragic avalanche near the Swiss resort of Zermatt has claimed the lives of three people, including an American teenager.

According to police, the avalanche occurred on Tuesday, April 2nd. The victims were part of a group of hikers who were caught in the sudden snowslide.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old American teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people, a 25-year-old man from Switzerland and a 30-year-old woman from Germany, also lost their lives.

A fourth person, a 28-year-old man from France, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The victim's current condition remains unknown.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the avalanche, which occurred in an area known for its steep slopes and unpredictable weather conditions.
