WSL: ‘Strong Potential’ for WSL Finals to Run Friday

WSL deputy commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer: "We're doing everything we can to run the finals on Friday"

Banzai Pipeline has been holding solid six-to-eight foot waves since Monday

The World Surf League (WSL) has stated that there is a "strong potential" for the WSL Finals to run on Friday at Banzai Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii.

WSL deputy commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer said: "We're doing everything we can to run the finals on Friday. The forecast looks promising, and the waves at Pipeline have been holding solid six-to-eight foot waves since Monday."

The WSL Finals will feature the top five men and women from the Championship Tour rankings, as well as two wildcards.

The men's field includes Gabriel Medina (BRA), Italo Ferreira (BRA), Filipe Toledo (BRA), Conner Coffin (USA), and Morgan Cibilic (AUS).

The women's field includes Carissa Moore (HAW), Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA), Johanne Defay (FRA), Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), and Lakey Peterson (USA).

WSL commissioner Erik Logan said: "We're excited to bring the WSL Finals to Banzai Pipeline. This is one of the most iconic surf breaks in the world, and it's sure to provide an exciting and challenging venue for the world's best surfers.

The WSL Finals will be the culmination of the 2023 Championship Tour season. The winners of the men's and women's events will be crowned World Champions.
